The Modalio is a sound transformation extension for pipe organs. Developed by Alter Instruments, it offers organists a wider range of sounds thanks to real-time digital processing, controlled by an intuitive interface including pedals and a touch screen. It captures the acoustic sound of the organ using microphones, processes it digitally and then broadcasts the processed sound through loudspeakers, mixing it with the original acoustic sound. The Modalio offers various effects such as transformations of rhythm, pitch, timbre and space, and can also trigger external audio files. The aim of the Modalio is to broaden the sound palette of the pipe organ, making it more accessible to contemporary music and opening up new creative possibilities for performers.
